Emissions Reduction Alberta (ERA) has launched the Carbon Capturing Kickstart: Design and Engineering call, a $30 million funding opportunity to drive the scale-up of carbon capture and transportation technology solutions in the province.

The funds will support pre-construction design and engineering, and is focused on site-specific carbon capture, direct air capture and carbon transportation infrastructure. Proposals addressing emissions in industrial sectors including power generation, cement production, manufacturing, oil and gas, will be accepted. The proposals must target specific large final emitter sites in Alberta.

ERA will provide up to 50 per cent (up to $7.5 million) of the project costs and identify opportunities to leverage funding from other agencies.

“On the path to net-zero emissions, carbon capture will be a key pillar of the effort to transform how we produce and use energy. By incenting collaboration and helping to build the case for investment, this funding creates momentum for further technology development and applications,” said Steve MacDonald, ERA CEO, in a statement.

The deadline for applications is March 3, 2022, and an informational webinar will be held on January 26 at 9:00 a.m. MST.
