Shuttered B.C. bio-energy plant to restart operations under new ownership group

A new consortium of owners is acquiring a former bio-energy plant in Fort St. James, B.C. that had closed in July after operating for less than five years.

The plant generated its power from wood waste and employed 38 people at the time of its closure. BioEnergy North, a joint venture among Arrow Transportation Systems in Vancouver, the Nak’adzli Development Corp., and Nexus Program Management Group of Dallas, expects the transaction to close by Nov. 15.

The plant could be back in operation by mid-December. The president of BioEnergy North said the exact reasons for the plant’s shutdown weren’t clear, but noted there were challenges associated with fibre.
