Feds invest nearly $19 M in EV chargers

VANCOUVER — Federal investments totalling near $19 million announced for the installation of up to 2,416 EV chargers, over 1,880 of which will be installed across Greater Vancouver.

The Government of British Columbia, through its CleanBC Go Electric Program, also provided $2.2 million toward Level 3 public chargers to be installed in the province. This funding was provided to 26 projects, led by organizations such as municipalities, multi-residential buildings, businesses and utilities.

“More and more British Columbians are choosing to drive electric vehicles because they want to be part of creating a healthier, cleaner environment,” said Josie Osborne, British Columbia’s Minister of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation. “Partnerships like this one make it easy to switch to EVs and give drivers the peace of mind that they can get from A to B. We’re also supporting electric vehicle drivers through our Go Electric EV Charger Rebate program, with rebates that make it easier and more affordable for people to install charging stations at their homes and near workplaces.”

Federal funding will be provided through Natural Resources Canada’s Zero-Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP), which supports the deployment of charging and refuelling infrastructure, as well as through the Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Demonstration Program that supports demonstrations EV charging and hydrogen refuelling infrastructure.
